Fresh composting worms from our own worm farm, ready to get your worm farm working. They come packed in established castings, so they settle in quickly and start turning your kitchen scraps into rich castings and worm tea for the garden.
What do I get?
- A mix of live composting worms, fresh from our farm
- Packed in established castings, about 2 litres for 1,000 worms
- 500, 1,000 or 2,000 worms. The bigger the pack, the less you pay per worm.
How many worms do I need?
About 1,000 gets a Worm CafΓ© or Worm Cube off to a good start. 500 suits a smaller start, like a Worm Buffet in a garden bed. 2,000 gets a bigger farm up to full pace sooner. Worms breed to match the food and space they have, so the population builds from there.
How do I get them?
Pick them up from our Lawnton showroom, or add them to a local delivery. They travel best in the shade, so bring them straight home and into the farm.
What do I do when they arrive?
- Tip the worms and their castings onto moist bedding in your farm's working tray.
- Cover them with a worm blanket and keep the farm somewhere shady.
- Start with small feeds of chopped scraps and add more as they clear it.
- Go easy on citrus, onion and garlic, and leave out meat and dairy.
Can I put them straight into my raised garden bed?
Composting worms live in rich, rotting organic matter, so they do best in a worm farm. To get them working in a garden bed, sink a Worm Buffet in-ground worm farm into it. The worms feed in the buffet and roam out into the bed, leaving castings where your plants can use them.
Want the whole setup?
The Worm CafΓ© Starter Kit and Worm Cube Starter Kit each come with 1,000 of these worms and everything else you need to start, for less than buying the pieces separately.
