A large timber planter box with a trellis and pot shelf. The box is 157 cm long and 60 cm wide and sits at 50 cm, about knee height, and the galvanised steel mesh trellis along the back takes it to 163 cm overall.
We build it in our Lawnton workshop and deliver it assembled across South East Queensland, ready to fill.
Why a planter box with a trellis?
Climbers need something to grab. Beans, peas, cucumbers and tomatoes head up the steel mesh instead of sprawling over the path, and because the box is low they get a long run before they reach the top. Planted out, it turns a bare fence into a green wall.
What's the pot shelf for?
Somewhere to stand seedlings and potted herbs, off the ground and out of the way, while the bed below does the heavy lifting.
Would a privacy screen suit better?
If you want to block a view rather than grow climbers, choose the 1.6 m privacy screen option above. It runs horizontal timber slats up the back instead of the mesh.
Inside, a recycled plastic tub holds the potting mix and the water, so the MCA treated hoop pine frame stays dry. The 33 cm slatted option swaps the tub for a flat timber slat base for potted plants. Want to move it? The wheeled version rolls on braked castors. Want it waist-high? Try the 80 cm raised garden bed with trellis.

What do I fill it with?
Quality potting mix straight into the tub. No base layers or crushed rock needed. Capacity: 23cm Depth = 110 litres, 35cm Depth = 220 litres, 41cm Depth 270 litres. In our SEQ delivery area we can even deliver it filled and ready to plant: add the Potting Mix Fill service. Full step-by-step: how to fill your raised garden bed.
How deep should your garden bed be?
23 cm is the budget pick, ideal for herbs, flowers, lettuce and other shallow-rooted plants (it dries out quickest, so it likes part shade or regular watering). 35 cm is the sweet spot most customers choose: it handles tomatoes, capsicums and most veggies while holding moisture well. 41 cm suits root veg like carrots and potatoes, plus potted citrus. It holds moisture best and is the heaviest when full.
Can I move it once it’s set up?
Empty, it’s an easy two-person lift. If you’ll want to chase the sun through the seasons, the wheels version rolls on braked castors: tap + Wheels under Mix & Match above.
Will my deck or balcony get wet underneath?
The tub has drainage holes in the base, so water drains out underneath. On a deck or balcony, add the Drainage Capture kit: it channels overflow away or straight into a watering can.
Will the timber rot or attract termites?
It’s arsenic-free MCA treated hoop pine, built to resist both. If it’s going on grass or bare ground, we recommend a paver or our protective feet under each leg to break the moisture and termite highway. Full guide: Care & Maintenance.
How often will I need to water?
Shallower tubs (23 cm) dry out faster in full sun; 35–41 cm hold moisture longer. The drip watering kit with timer makes it set-and-forget.
